First Three Kings Day Cultural Celebration

To commemorate one of Latin America's Christmas holiday traditions, the first Three Kings Day celebration was held on January 10, 2009, at Takoma Park, Maryland. A collaboration between the Governor's Commission on Hispanic Affairs, Pedro Biaggi of El Zol 99.1FM, and six partner agencies from across the State made possible this year's celebration. Ten families received gifts for babies and children under the age of five. At CentroNia in Takoma Park, over 20 children enjoyed a story-telling visual presentation about the three Kings and also heard their parents share stories of celebration from their respective homelands. The children received educational toys, coats, treats, and their choice of beanie babies. Their parents also enjoyed the celebration as they received items such as baby strollers, play pens, car seats, and baby clothes among many other gifts that were made available for their choosing. In Baltimore City, Education Based Latino Outreach (EBLO) also had a wonderful celebration which included the Three Kings themselves who handed gifts to over 30 children and their families.

The Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs would like to thank Pedro Biaggi, EBLO and all the partner agencies for making it all possible; CentroNia of Takoma Park, Centro Familia of Silver Spring, Maryland Multicultural Youth Center of Langley Park, Centro de Ayuda of Annapolis, and Centro de la Comunidad of Baltimore.
